About the Speaker:

Hua Xinmin, born in Beijing in 1954, is of Chinese, Polish and French descent. His grandfather, Hua Nangui, was a famous civil engineering expert in modern China, and was the chief engineer of the Beijing Metropolitan Planning Commission in the early years of the People's Republic of China. His father, Hua Langhong, was a famous architect in modern China. He was the second chief architect of the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission, and later served as the chief architect of the Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute for a long time. Her aunt Huaximeng left the country as a teenager and later became a Chinese woman architect practicing in Belgium.
