TJU Expands Ties in Vietnam and Thailand

Recently, a delegation from Tianjin University (TJU), led by Assistant to the President Liu Xiuguo, visited Vietnam and Thailand to deepen higher education cooperation with ASEAN partners and expand international student recruitment channels. The delegation visited six universities and research institutions, attended the 2024 China-ASEAN Alliance of Engineering Universities (CAAEU) Annual Conference, met with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, and engaged with TJU alumni.

In Vietnam, the delegation visited the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University (VNU) Hanoi, and Vinh University. At VAST, both sides discussed joint research, student exchange, and dual-degree opportunities. At Vietnam National University, meetings focused on collaborative programs in Chinese culture, fundamental sciences, and engineering, with both sides agreeing to launch comprehensive cooperation. The delegation also met with the Chinese Embassy, where Counselor Zheng Dawei affirmed support for TJU’s educational engagement in Vietnam.

Further visits to Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Vinh University led to agreements on Chinese language programs, joint publications, continuing education, and summer/winter student exchanges. The delegation also held a gathering with Vietnamese alumni, encouraging them to contribute to TJU’s international development and partnerships.

In Thailand, the delegation participated in the 2024 CAAEU Annual Conference hosted by Mahidol University. Nearly 20 member institutions from across ASEAN shared institutional updates and future plans. TJU was elected as the rotating chair for 2025. Liu Xiuguo pledged to promote collaborative innovation, international research, and cultural exchanges within the alliance.

The visit concluded at the Progress College of Thailand, where discussions focused on Chinese language education, cultural programs, and pre-university training. TJU expressed its commitment to expanding cooperation in language promotion and youth exchange.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic ties and the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand relations, as well as the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. It marks TJU’s continued contribution to building a high-quality Belt and Road education community and advancing China-ASEAN cooperation.
