From May 31 to June 1, Tianjin University hosted the 39th Tianjin Science Week flagship event at the Tianjin Cultural Center under the theme “Smart Tech for the Future.” Coinciding with the Dragon Boat Festival and Children’s Day, the event attracted large crowds of residents, families, and students, becoming a highlight of the holiday weekend.
This year’s event focused on intelligent technology and public science education. A 500-meter-long “Micro-Classroom Science Corridor” was set up, featuring 30 short, interactive science lessons. Experts, professors, and student representatives from Tianjin University, Haihe Middle School, Wanquan Primary School, and several tech companies delivered engaging talks on AI, robotics, unmanned systems, and smart technologies, making complex scientific concepts easy to understand for all ages.
Tianjin University presented a wide array of smart equipment, including autonomous shuttle buses, cleaning robots, all-terrain inspection vehicles, six-rotor drones, humanoid robots, and robotic dogs. Visitors had the chance to ride self-driving vehicles, interact with intelligent robots, and witness the real-world applications of emerging technologies.
Local companies such as Tianjin INSED Tech and Youxin Smart Tech also showcased their innovations, including brain-controlled drones, robotic arms, and legged robot formations. These displays brought the latest in AI and automation to the general public.
Students from Haihe Middle School and Wanquan Primary School presented their science and innovation projects, such as AI waste-sorting robots, mechanical arms, and smart home devices. Their imaginative inventions demonstrated not only strong scientific knowledge but also creativity and problem-solving skills.
An interactive idea-collection session invited the public to propose technology upgrades for the Galaxy Science Plaza, encouraging community involvement in shaping future urban tech spaces.
Professor Xie Hui, one of the event’s organizers, noted that the event aimed to make intelligent technology more visible and accessible, especially to young people. Wu Lian, head of Hexi District’s Science Association, emphasized the importance of integrating education and innovation to foster future scientific talent.
