Tianjin University Holds Commendation Ceremony for Outstanding Students

On May 9, Tianjin University held the 2023–2024 Academic Year Commendation Ceremony for Outstanding Students at the Qiushi Hall on the Peiyangyuan Campus. A total of 246 groups and 12,831 individual recognitions were awarded. President and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Chai Liyuan attended the event and delivered a speech. University leaders Li Wei, Yang Huan, Zhang Junyan, Liu Xiuguo, Zhao Jinduo, and Zhang Peng presented awards to the honorees.

Representatives from the university’s academic and administrative departments, scholarship donors, and over 700 faculty and student representatives also attended. Chai Liyuan congratulated the awardees and encouraged students to integrate personal ideals with national development, pursue academic excellence, strengthen physical and moral education, and embrace their responsibility in advancing education, science, and national talent.

At the event, the decisions recognizing outstanding students and international students were announced. A report on the university’s student financial aid initiatives was also presented.

Alumni representatives, including Liu Yi, Chairman of iHealth and Dean of Xuanhuai College, and Wang Lan, donor of the Peiyang Chunhui Scholarship, shared their reflections. Liu introduced the innovation model to foster entrepreneurship. Wang recalled the establishment of the Chunhui Fund by 1967 English major alumni to support education at their alma mater.

During the ceremony, university leaders awarded certificates and medals to student and group honorees. Twelve individuals were recognized for excellence in academics, sports, arts, volunteer service, labor education, and moral leadership.

In a gesture of gratitude, the teachers and parents of student representatives delivered lectures to highlight joint effort in student development. The ceremony featured poetry recitations, thematic presentations, and a group singing of the university anthem. The celebration underscored Tianjin University’s 130-year legacy of nurturing talent for national rejuvenation and global progress.
