Shaping the Future: New Programs in Smart Construction, Medicine, and Sports

Tianjin University has introduced three new undergraduate majors, Intelligent Architecture and Construction, Preventive Medicine, and Sports Training, according to the Ministry of Education’s 2024 program filing and approval results. Meanwhile, the Urban and Rural Planning and Landscape Architecture programs have been adjusted to four-year formats.

The new programs reflect the university’s strategic response to national development needs, building on disciplinary strengths and promoting interdisciplinary integration. Intelligent Architecture and Construction and Preventive Medicine will begin enrolling students in 2025, while Sports Training will release its admission guidelines later that year.

In recent years, Tianjin University has prioritized program restructuring, aiming to strengthen traditional fields, expand emerging disciplines, and cultivate future-focused areas. By aligning with national strategies and emerging industries, the university continues to refine its academic ecosystem and drive quality-oriented development.

The Intelligent Architecture and Construction program integrates architectural design with digital technology and complex engineering, preparing students for cutting-edge urban development. It offers four years of training under the guidance of leading architects, engineers, and scholars.

Preventive Medicine, with a focus on emergency response, will be offered through the School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine. Supported by the university’s strengths in engineering and AI, it features a five-year curriculum that trains students in intelligent decision-making and data-driven public health governance. The program plans to enroll 30 students annually and confers a medical degree.

The Sports Training program supports China’s “Healthy Nation” initiative and leverages Tianjin’s legacy as a “City of Sports.” In partnership with the Tianjin Sports Bureau, the program integrates academic and athletic training, drawing on expertise in engineering, medicine, and management. It aims to cultivate globally minded sports professionals through a broad-based curriculum and is supported by five former national athletes, including four international-level players.

Tianjin University will continue to advance program innovation and interdisciplinary development to support its goal of becoming a world-class university.
