Tianjin University Helps with Rescue Efforts in Myanmar

A powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing numerous injuries as well as extensive property damage. A volunteer rescue team from the School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine of Tianjin University went to Myanmar for participation in international earthquake relief operations.

On March 31, 2025, Tianjin University deployed Professor Lv Qi, Vice Dean at Institute of Disaster and Emergency Medicine, and Chief Physician Zhang Tao from the Traumatic Orthopedics Department at Tianjin Hospital, as pioneering members of the Beijing Emergency Rescue Association's medical task force to participate in international disaster relief operations in Myanmar. The team commenced their mission at 4:30 pm Beijing Time, equipped with advanced medical technologies and institutional expertise.

Professor Lv Qi stated: "It is a profound honor to contribute to Myanmar's earthquake relief efforts. I will be committed to accomplishing this mission, demonstrating the professional expertise of Chinese medical personnel through decisive actions, while upholding the esteemed mission of embracing global responsibility and serving our global community with a shared future as an educator of Tianjin University."

Currently, medical experts from Tianjin University have arrived in Mandalay, Myanmar, and are commencing WHO-aligned emergency medical relief operations in earthquake-affected zones.

The core members of School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine of Tianjin University have participated in major disaster response operations including the Wenchuan Earthquake (2008), Yushu Earthquake (2010), Pakistan Earthquake (2010), and Indonesian Tsunami (2004), accumulating over 30 field operational deployments in domestic and international emergency scenarios. Building upon their extensive experience, team experts have developed a series of portable and intelligent diagnostic systems for earthquake disaster sites under the support of the National Key R&D Program of China.
