Tianjin University’s 2025 “Crabapple Blossom Festival” will officially commence on March 31, coinciding with the university’s 130th anniversary. Themed “A Century and Beyond, New Crabapple Blossoms Flourish,” this springtime celebration blends the profound heritage of China’s first modern university with the vibrant beauty of blooming crabapple flowers. Students, alumni, and the public are invited to partake in this memorable festival.
According to the university’s arrangements, the campus will be open for seven days from March 31 to April 6, with April 5 designated as the main open day. On this day, both Weijin Road and Peiyangyuan campuses will offer four themed tour routes. Visitors can explore the “Tianjin University Legacy,” “Pioneering Spirit,” “Cultural Heritage,” and “Spring in Full Bloom” routes. Along these paths, guests will experience the fragrant charm of over 800 blooming crabapple trees along Mingde Road and touch the ancient rings of trees over 70 years old. At Peiyangyuan Campus, they will marvel at the splendor of over 1,300 trees across 16 varieties along the Crabapple Dike, reflecting the timeless glory of 130 years. With blooming periods, the best time to visit Weijin Road Campus is in early April, while Peiyangyuan Campus follows a week later, providing visitors with an extended window for enjoying the floral display.
As a highlight of the 130th-anniversary celebrations, the Crabapple Blossom Festival will feature a variety of cultural experiences. On April 5, the university will host an array of activities, including the “Centennial Legacy, Glorious Century” Tianjin University Archives Exhibition, “Tianjin University and the Blossoms of the Future” alumni cultural performance, an exhibition showcasing project-based learning in emerging engineering education disciplines, an open day at the National Large-Scale Earthquake Engineering Simulation Facility, open days at key national and Tianjin science and technology centers, institute history exhibitions, the “Blossom Innovation Season” science and culture festival, a student club culture festival, the “National Spirit” Wang Xuezhong Centennial Art Exhibition, intangible cultural heritage demonstrations, university admission consultation services, guided tours for high school students, a badminton world champion open class, and dragon boat performance and promotion activities. The Alumni House will also offer photo opportunities and a “Peiyang Impressions” commemorative stamp-making activity, transforming the spirit of the university into tangible cultural memories.
The reservation system opened on March 30. Current students can invite friends and family through the WeChat platform, alumni can apply for entry using their electronic alumni cards, and the public can reserve through the “Tianjin University” official WeChat account. Daily visiting hours are from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Visitors are encouraged to use green transportation and park vehicles in designated areas outside the campus to maintain academic and research order. During the event, campus dining halls will be open to visitors, allowing them to savor the flavors of Tianjin University while enjoying the springtime ambiance.
