To celebrate its 130th anniversary on October 2, 2025, Tianjin University, China’s oldest institution of higher education in modern history, has unveiled the theme, logo, and slogan for this historic occasion. The theme, “130 Years of Fame, A Nation’s Rising Flame,” highlights the university’s profound historical ties to the nation’s progress and its enduring commitment to advancing knowledge for national development.
The logo, designed around the colors “Red” and “Peiyang Blue,” resembles a waving flag that integrates the university’s name, emblem, motto, and iconic architectural elements. It symbolizes Tianjin University’s distinguished role as a pioneer in Chinese higher education and its dedication to leading engineering education reform in the new era. The design creatively interprets the number “130,” establishing a dialogue that spans three centuries.
The digit “1” draws inspiration from the columns of the original Peiyang University building, bearing the university’s motto, “Seeking Truth from Facts.” The digit “3” outlines the contours of the main building at the Weijin Road Campus, a revered site for over 300,000 alumni as a spiritual symbol. This historic landmark embodying the university’s commitment to national progress. The digit “0” is modeled after the main building of the Peiyangyuan Campus, surrounded by 31 radiating lines that present the unity and progress of the university’s 31 schools. This imagery reflects Tianjin University’s response to the era of artificial intelligence and its philosophy of “Shaping Future Minds, Leading with Strategic Vision”.
“Tianjin University, at 130 years old, remains a beacon of China’s higher education and a symbol of national strength through education. It continues to lead engineering education reform with a forward-looking vision.” Yang Huan, Director of the Publicity Department, expressing heartfelt anticipation for this milestone celebration. “On October 2, 2025, we will mark this remarkable occasion and warmly invite alumni, higher education professionals, and friends from all sectors to join us at Tianjin University. Together, we will explore new paths for university development and contribute to building a stronger education system.”
