Tianjin University Explores AI-Driven Research and Education at DeepSeek Seminar

On February 8, 2025, Tianjin University hosted the “Artificial Intelligence Practice Enhancement – DeepSeek Seminar,” organized by the Graduate School, Institute for Scientific and Technological Development, and Teacher Development Center.

The event discussed the impact of AI on research and education, and featured speeches from Vice President Li Bin and professors Xiong Deyi, Wang Zheng, and Zhu Pengfei.

Li Bin highlighted the role of AI in transforming academic research and education, noting the importance of models like DeepSeek. He encouraged faculty and students to deepen the integration of theory and practice to drive innovation and enhance the university's "Double First Class" initiatives.

Professor Xiong Deyi provided an in-depth look at DeepSeek’s technical architecture, emphasizing its low-cost, high-performance capabilities. He stressed the importance of collaboration between technical and strategic talent in achieving breakthroughs.

Professor Wang Zheng demonstrated how DeepSeek is reshaping research workflows, from paper writing to experimental design, and introduced innovative teaching methods using AI. He pointed out the shift toward data-driven research, enabling researchers to focus on key scientific issues.

Professor Zhu Pengfei discussed the practical applications of AI in scientific research, highlighting how it aids in hypothesis generation, code development, and paper writing. He emphasized the need for academic integrity in AI-assisted research.

The seminar concluded with discussions on AI ethics, interdisciplinary collaboration, and resource development. Vice Dean Hu Qinghua of the Graduate School noted that DeepSeek represents a significant advancement in AI, marking an important step in Tianjin University’s efforts to integrate AI into education, research, and governance.
