Recently, Tianjin welcomed its first snowfall of the season, bringing with it a sharp drop in temperature. Among those still on campus, Tianjin University freshman Wang, a student from the College of Intelligent Computing, shared a video call with her parents, proudly showing off her stylish and warm new down jacket. "Look, this is a gift from the school! It's so warm and beautiful!" she exclaimed.
Since 1992, Tianjin University has been providing winter coats to students from economically disadvantaged families. This heartwarming initiative has continued for 33 years, benefiting over 3,200 students and investing more than one million yuan in total.
This winter, Tianjin University held a "Warm Hearts, Full of Love" winter clothing distribution event across both campuses, offering 141 first-year students warm and stylish winter clothing packages. To meet students' personal preferences, the university collaborated with quality suppliers, selecting seven fashionable down jackets for students to choose from. In advance, the student affairs department invited current students to model the jackets for photos, giving their peers a more convenient, visual shopping experience. A survey was also conducted, allowing students to pre-select their preferred styles for easy ordering. The school purchased jackets according to students' "wish lists."
At the event, students at the Peiyangyuan and Weijin Road campuses received their new winter gear, with fitting areas available to exchange sizes if necessary. In addition to trying on their new jackets, students participated in fun activities like "Pictionary," writing messages of thanks, collecting likes on social media, and answering questions about the university's student support policies.
"I can’t believe the university is giving us free winter coats and letting us choose the style we like! Tianjin University is so thoughtful!" said Zhao, "I will not let this kindness go to waste and will work hard to make my school proud!"
Li Jinglin, Director of the Student Assistance Center, expressed, "Seeing the surprise and gratitude in the students' eyes when they received their winter jackets filled me with warmth. This isn't just a coat—it's 33 years of care from Tianjin University. These winter coats carry our love and responsibility, and we hope they will help these students focus on their studies and flourish in this nurturing environment."
In addition to the winter clothing, Tianjin University is spreading festive cheer this Spring Festival for students who remain on campus. The newly opened ice skating rink at Peiyangyuan Campus has been a hit, offering a fun winter experience. The campus is decorated with red lanterns and colorful lights to celebrate the season, while various departments plan to host a New Year celebration on New Year's Eve. Students will receive festive snacks, commemorative campus cards for the Year of the Snake, and a hearty New Year's Eve dinner, making sure everyone enjoys a warm, joyful, and fulfilling holiday season.
