【The 24 Solar Terms】Start of Winter

There are 24 solar terms in a year according to the traditional Chinese calendar.

Li Dong, or Start of Winter, is the nineteenth solar term. It means the coming of winter and implies that the crops harvested should be stored up. On this day, in the north of China, there is a custom of eating jiaozi, or dumpling.
