Recently, the 2nd National Competition of College Teaching Innovation came to a successful end at Xi’an Jiaotong University. Focusing on “Facilitate Teaching Innovation to Cultivate Top Talent”, the competition welcomed 1462 teachers in total from 267 nationwide colleges and universities, with 205 courses being qualified for on-site assessment. Among the colleges and universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education, including provincial co-build ones, Tianjin University won a first prize, three third prizes, ranking third in the total number of awards and fourth in the number of first prizes. Also, as the organizer in Tianjin, TJU was given the excellent organization award.
The Fundamentals of Power System team, led by teacher Liu Yanli at the School of Electric and Information Engineering, got the first prize. And three third prizes went to teams of Public Crisis Management, Design and Humanity-Modern Public Art and Case Studies in Criminal Law, steered respectively by teacher Lilei at College of Management and Economy, teacher Wanghe at the School of Architecture and teacher Yangning at Law School.
Upholding the principle of moral education, TJU has been improving faculty capacity and ideological cultivation as evidence of setting great store by course teaching, which is regarded as a core domain. With innovative teaching exploration deeply in mind, TJU encourages various promoting methods, like lectures, seminars, teaching observation and practice as well as online learning. All these aim to solidify teachers’ expertise and teaching abilities, foster their love for education and promote the professionalism. TJU helps teachers not only engage in education, but do better in it.
With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the National Competition of College Teaching Innovation is listed among Retained Competitions affiliated with MoE. It’s the only of its kind orienting toward teachers at colleges and universities. There’s a three-level competing mechanism-campus, province and nation. Besides, two tracks are set for colleges and universities under the Ministry of Education and local ones. Facing teachers of different disciplines and majors, the competition divides participants into three groups-senior, deputy senior as well as intermediate and below ones, providing a stage for teachers to present their unique teaching styles.
