Tianjin University held the commencement ceremony for Class 2021 graduates at the sports stadium of its Weijin Road campus on July 2, 2021. Out of the 3,012 graduates, 423 students were awarded doctoral degrees and 2,589 students received their master’s degree.
In his congratulatory speech, President Jin Donghan, an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering encouraged the graduates to be tide riders and shoulder the historical task of national rejuvenation.
“2021 is a year of historic significance. Yesterday, the whole country celebrated the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, sounding the bugle of marching towards the second Centennial goal. In a time like this, you should shoulder the great mission of national rejuvenation, stand in the forefront of the times and forge ahead with a pioneering attitude.”said President Jin.
He asked the students to be innovative, tenacious and persistent in their future life and work.
“Please remember: wherever you are and whatever you do, as long as you have the courage to innovate, you will become a different self, an extraordinary somebody.”
“A resigned attitude will lead you nowhere, and complaining only worsens problems. Only by keeping an unyielding spirit, facing difficulties squarely, and persevering in your efforts, can you overcome all difficulties and achieve success.”
Yang Hewei, a doctoral student from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology spoke on behalf of the Class 2021. He expressed his gratitude and best regards to TJU and all the teachers. He has spent 10 years at TJU, from an undergraduate to a PhD. Yang called on all graduates to stick to the school motto of “Seek truth from facts” and contribute to the development of the country.
Li Hongxia, who graduated from Tianjin in 1990 delivered a speech at the ceremony as the alumni representative. She is now the Chief Engineer of China Steel Group Co., Ltd., Honorary President of Luoyang Refractories Research Institute of China Steel Group, and academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials Sciences. Miss Li advised the graduates to be down-to-earth in their work and stay true to their original aspiration.
