TJU Holds Chemical Engineering Discipline Summit

The School of Chemical Engineering and Technology (SCET) organized and held a Chemical Engineering Discipline Summit on campus from April 10 to 11. Outstanding alumni representatives and teachers of the School were invited to gather together and discuss the development of chemical engineering disciplines.

On the morning of April 10, Professor Hou Linxi, the executive vice president of Fuzhou University’s School of Petrochemical Technology delivered the first report. As the descendant of Hou Debang, the forerunner of China's heavy chemical industry and one of the founders of modern chemical industry who proposed Hou's alkali making process, Prof. Hou talked about the spiritual heritage patriotic scientists like Hou Debang have left and their enlightenment on today’s researchers.

Prof. He encouraged everyone at TJU to keep in mind the university’s mission to "prosper the country by improving its education" and the school motto of "Seek Truth from Facts", and shoulder the heavy responsibility entrusted by history to rejuvenate the nation.

On the afternoon of April 10, the opening ceremony of the summit was held on Weijin Road Campus.

Li Jiajun, Party Secretary of the university, delivered an opening speech. He expressed sincere welcome to the arrival of all alumni and teachers. “Since its establishment, the School of Chemical Engineering has cultivated many outstanding talents and played an important role in various fields of society,” Li said, “We firmly believe that the valuable opinions and suggestions of our alumni will promote the development of the university’s chemical engineering discipline.”

Ma Xinbin, Dean of the SCET, gave a report titled "Driven by Innovation, Leading High-quality Development", and introduced the overall situation of SCET in detail from four aspects. Ma said that SCET would continue its efforts to build first-class chemical engineering discipline. “We will adhere to the development philosophy of “upholding first-class standards, cultivating first-class talents, creating first-class research, and making first-class contributions” Ma proclaimed.

After the opening ceremony, Gong Jinlong, the vice president of Tianjin University, presided over the discussion on the construction of chemical engineering disciplines. At the meeting, 22 experts and alumni representatives from domestic universities, research institutes, and enterprises’ science and technology departments put forward many constructive opinions and suggestions on the subject's research direction, development goals, platform construction, talent introduction and training, social needs and other aspects.
