Crabapple Trees from Tianjin University planted in Fujia Village

To celebrate the 43th Chinese Arbor Day, Tianjin University organized a group of students and faculty members to Fujia Village of Jinghai Town, planted 50 crabapple trees and joined the opening ceremony of the student labor education practice base on March 12, 2021. The event demonstrates the university’s commitment to promote rural revitalization and an awareness that values industriousness.

The attendees were Zhao Xin, director of the Office of Student Affairs of the Party Committee, Lv Zhi, deputy secretary of the Party committee of Jinghai Town, Liu Donghai, dispatched secretary of Fujia Village and leader of the local working group, Fu Jungang, secretary of the Party committee of Fujia Village, over forty teacher Party members from the first and second Party branch of the Office of Student Affairs, teacher representatives from the Office of Logistic Support, and over fifty student Party members from different schools. This activity was held by Yi Baojin, director of the student Party school and an undergraduate from School of Architecture at Tianjin University.

Lv, on behalf of Jinghai Town, extended a warm welcome to the members from Tianjin University, and expressed his gratitude to Tianjin University for its cultural, educational and industrial assistance for Fujia Village and Jinghai Town. He also expected the further cooperation on the implementation of rural revitalization strategy.

Fu, on behalf of Fujia Village, welcomed the arrival of the teachers and students, and showed thankfulness to Tianjin University for its ongoing support to the development of his village. Furthermore, he shared a large number of solid and fruitful achievements they had made in the striving for poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

Zhao thanked Jinghai Town and Fujia Village for providing an opportunity to carry out labor education practice. He suggested that teachers and students from Tianjin University should play a leading role to put into their actions the ecological civilization construction awareness of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” in an active manner. It takes a decade to grow a good tree and a century to bring up a generation of good men. The Office of Student Affairs was to continuously focus on students’ ideological education and values, encourage students to drive rural revitalization with labor practice, and cultivate socialist builders and successors who have all-round attainments in moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic education. By this means, they would make contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Zhao, Lv, Liu, Fu and student Party member representatives unveiled the plaques of “Student Labor Education Practice Base” and “Crabapple Tree Road: Student Party Member Labor Education Demonstration Project of Tianjin University”.

Guided by professionals in charge of landscaping from Office of Logistic Support, the members from Tianjin University, divided into groups to plant crabapple trees. Some shoveled soil, some held trees and rammed down the earth, and others fetched water. A busy light scene came in sight. ”This is the first tree that I have ever planted by myself. I feel so excited at the thought of that the tree I plant will grow and thrive at Fujia Village. It carries my best wishes to the CPC and my endeavor to construct a beautiful China”, said Hou Pengyu, a first-year postgraduate and a Party member of School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering. Over an hour later, the local main roads were lined with saplings thanks to the participants’ efforts. This is also a good chance for the teacher and student to help improve the villagers’ living standard with their own hands and make a difference in national ecological civilization construction.

After being carefully tended in the campus for many years, the fifty two-meter-high midget crabapples donated by Tianjin University are covered in blossom in spring, and bear numerous fruits in autumn. Each of them was hung a sign with a branch name and a QR code, indicating that the Party branch would be responsible for its maintenance. Hopefully, their help will enable an environment-friendly, charming, prosperous village, and boost rural revitalization.

Tianjin University has organized tree-planting activities at Fujia Village for three consecutive years with an accumulative donation of some 500 trees including crabapple tree and sophora japonica “winter gold”, or a worth of more than 380,000 yuan. In addition, the Office of Student Affairs initiated a number of activities to serve up assistance to Fujia Village, such as setting up cultural corridors, bringing art shows to the villagers, organizing charitable teaching and summer camps. In the years to come, greater weight will be attached to Fujia Village’s role as a significant education base so as to let students experience the fruits of poverty reduction and engage in the great cause of rural revitalization.

It is reported that Tianjin University is going to start the “empowering through labor education” project, underlining the importance of daily labor education, professional labor education and service labor education. To be specific, it pledges to establish approximately sixty labor education practice bases within two years on campus and beyond as both a response to the Party’s educational policy and a means to further its talent cultivation comprehensive reform that adheres to the three requirements (let every student has an access to all-round education the whole way) and five objectives (students have all-round attainments in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education) of cultivating students.
