Professor Zhang Hengshan of Law School Awarded First 'Han Depei Law Prize'

On November 21, the First Han Depei Law Prize Award Ceremony was held at Wuhan University. Prof. Zhang Hengshan from Tianjin University’s Law School was awarded the "Young Original Award". Professor Zhang's winning essay was On the Moral Basis of Human Rights published in the 6th issue of the Chinese Journal of Law in 1997.

It is reported that the Han Depei Law Prize is established in the name of Mr. Han Depei, a famous jurist and educator in China, the patriarch of Chinese private international law and the pioneer and founder of Chinese environmental law, to commemorate Mr. Han's outstanding contribution to the cause of jurisprudence and promote Mr. Han's spirit of scholarship, noble character and greatness. The prize will focus on culturing and awarding outstanding talents in law and boosting the development of domestic legal education and the prosperity of legal research.

The first Han Depei Law Prize Award Ceremony was organized by Wuhan University and the Han Depei Law Foundation of Wuhan University, and hosted by Wuhan University’s Law School, Wuhan University Institute of International Law and the Institute of International Rule of Law. There were 9 applications for the Lifetime Achievement Award and 102 applications for the Young Original Award.

All eight winners of thee "Young Original Award" gave excellent presentations on current hot issues in jurisprudence.
