With a three-year aggregate weight score of 96.317 and the GPA of 3.99, Ge Binghui, an excellent student majoring in applied physics in Tianjin University, took first place in her grade. Actually, among her 66 specialized courses, 12 of them got full marks, 46 courses got 95 points plus and 62 courses 90 points plus. She also won a series of awards. Finally, Ge successfully applied for the successive postgraduate and doctoral programs of the School of Physics, Peking University.
"My passion for it can go beyond time and last long and I would like to make my own contributions to the development of this profession," Ge said when talked about the reasons why she was dedicated to learning physics, "I am increasingly absorbed in it."
Guided by Dai Wusheng, a professor of TJU, Ge Binghui started her study with postgraduate students and became involved in their daily research projects when she was a sophomore. The study of group theory, general relativity and other theories laid a solid foundation for her future research.
Ge Binghui also tried to turn the theory into practice. She took an active part in the fifth Academic Competition in Physics of TJU and her team finally got the first prize with the research topic of stick bomb. What's more, in the summer of her sophomore year, she worked as an intern at the Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the group Q03, which mainly focused on quantum computing and precision measurement, Ge helped Dr. Liu Gangqin establish the experimental platform. In addition, in August 2019, Ge was selected to be a member of a summer program titled “the scientific research at the cutting edge" at Oxford University. There, she was awarded the best critical engagement and audience appreciation for her proposal about particle physics and her wonderful final presentation. Luckily, through the program, she had a great interest in particle physics and decided to take it as her future research direction.
On top of professional study, Ge also participated in student work to improve herself. As the monitor of Yan Jici Physical Elites Class, she took an initiative to create a sound phenomenon for study, adopting every way to provide a platform for class study and communication. Ultimately, 15 of the total 25 students of this class were recommended for admission to Tsinghua University, Peiking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences or other research institutes respectively. The class was rated as the advanced collective of TJU and she herself was awarded as the excellent class leader. Except for the participation of class affairs, she also worked as an adviser in the college's study instruction center and as a peer English teacher at the tutorial center, sharing her experience of study and career planning. The future development of the country depends on the young generation. Therefore, Ge tries to make progress together with her peers so as to make contributions to national development in the future.
Although she was busy with her professional studies, she participated in colorful extracurricular activities. On the one hand, she cultivated diverse interests, including baking, erhu, Latin dance, guitar, and jazziness. Through photos, writing, and drawing, she recorded her daily life. From her perspective, people can absorb energy from art and express emotion through it, which may help to balance her study and life. Obviously, Ge does combine science and art harmoniously. On the other hand, she was active in social services. In the Turtle Conservation and Education Center in Bali, she learned basic knowledge and made her own efforts for animal protection. In the winter camp for left-behind children, she taught them English patiently. In the fight against covid-19, she volunteered to involve in relevant work in her community. She attempts to stay true to the original aspiration and mission as a TJU's student, sparing every effort to contribute to the society.
"Knowing the responsibility is the beginning of an aspiring man, while committing his duty is a must for making achievements." In the 21st century, Ge voluntarily shoulders the responsibilities of her generation and devotes herself to the country development and human well-being.
