Design and Construction Work Competition Held

On October 23, the Design and Construction Work Competition was held at Zhengdong Library on Peiyangyuan Campus.

It is reported that the "Design and Construction I " course is a bold attempt of Tianjin University to promote emerging engineering education. It advocates project-based group learning and integrates into its teaching the knowledge and skills of mechanical principle, engineering graphics, electrical automation, computer programming and other disciplines, so that students can master the basic methods of design and manufacturing and improve their cognition, practice and communication ability in the whole process of product development.

The competition is a way to evaluate the teaching effect of the innovative course and students were asked to design and build smart car prototypes that can carry out some designated tasks, like running along a specific route and automatically parking.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Wang Tianyou, Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering affirmed the remarkable role Design and Construction Course I played in talent cultivation, and called on students to attach importance to fundamental knowledge, improve practical ability and promote scientific and technological innovation capacity.
