On Teachers’ Day this year, Dr. Chen Xin who works at the Center for Applied Mathematics of the School of Mathematics, received a special gift—a letter of acknowledgement from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The letter highly praised Chen’s responsibility and work in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic, especially his outstanding contribution to the accurate prediction work of the epidemic development in China with his professional expertise, diligence and dedication.
It’s learnt that the Center for Applied Mathematics where Dr. Chen works specializes in establishing the early warning model of infectious disease risks. Since January 18, 2020, the center has presented accurately early warnings of the imported Covid-19 risks and completed more than 70 scientific and advisory reports, providing multiple suggestions on establishing a national prevention system against imported epidemic risks.
