On September 29, Tianjin University (TJU) held a conference on postgraduate education, announcing the "Tianjin University First-class Postgraduate Education Plan" after a full 50-days discussion.
The plan proposes to strengthen the key links of quality control in postgraduate training. Graduate students who fail to meet the graduation requirements are able to adopt management measures to terminate their current degree studies or training. Among them, if Ph.D. candidates fail their assessment during study, they can transfer to master’s degree programs instead of continuing to pursue doctoral degrees.
Meanwhile, TJU will comprehensively improve supervisors’ professional ability for talents cultivation, implement the tutor post-appointment system, and the annual review system for enrollment qualifications. Besides, the college will accelerate the adjustment of the discipline and specialty structure, and strengthen interdisciplinary construction. TJU will make great efforts to implement the plan and establish a graduate education system by 2035 for adapting the new era. It will become a "more optimized scale and structure of graduate education, more dynamic systems and mechanisms, outstanding service demand contributions, and a world-class, domestic-leading" graduate education system.
The plan also proposes to accelerate the adjustment of disciplines and majors, strengthen the research, judgment, and planning of professional degree settings, so as to respond to social needs. TJU will also promote the "2+5+X" action plan for the construction of the first-class discipline; strengthen interdisciplinary construction, increase support for "artificial intelligence plus", "energy storage" and other fields, and focus on implementing the "Tianjin Intelligence Project" to improve the ability and level of interdisciplinary talent training. And TJU and Georgia Tech Tianjin University Shenzhen Institute will cooperate in international training by deeply integrates international high-quality resources with graduate education and explores a new mode of cross-training international chemistry subjects. We will also work together to formulate new interdisciplinary management methods, break disciplinary barriers, and realize the organic connection and scientific evaluation of enrollment, training, degree, and other links.
