On September 4, 2020, local time in the U.S.A, the American Society of Landscape Architect (ASLA) announced the winning entries of the 2020 Student Awards.“Standing with Nature: resilience opportunities from current, sea-level rise and typhoon” by students from Tianjin University’s School of Architecture won the Honor Award for Analysis and Planning Category. This is the highest award ever won by landscape architecture students in international competitions at Tianjin University.
The design scheme originated from the early research topics of the Kaohsiung Wetland by the Space Humanities and Place Computing Laboratory. Inspired by the previous research, the planning and analysis scheme was completed by seven students of the School of Architecture under the joint guidance of instructors from the Department of Landscape Architecture and Department of Environmental Art and Design.

Lei Wei, who graduated in 2020 with a master degree led the design group as his early works attached great importance to the improvement of resilience of the inland wetland system. In 2018, he gained the Entry Recognition in the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Student Awards.

The American Society of Landscape Architects collects works from global design companies and teachers and students from universities every year. The history of the ASLA Professional Awards can be traced back to 1981. The evaluation of the Student Awards began in 2004, which is one of the world's most recognized awards in the landscape architecture field. The ALSA Student Awards is divided into eight categories: General Design, Residential Design, Urban Design, Analysis and Planning, Research, Communications, Student Collaboration, and Student Community Service. Each year, nearly 30 works around the world receive the honor. In 2020, a total of 5 works from domestic colleges and universities won the ASLA Student Awards. Tianjin University is the only domestic university that won the award in the Analysis and Planning Category.
