Press Briefing on Events to Celebrate Tianjin University’s 125th Anniversary Held

On September 27, in a press briefing held by Tianjin Municipal People’s Government Information Office, the press spoke personnel from Tianjin University released the main events to celebrate the university’s 125th Anniversary due on October 2.

Themed on “TJUers all over the world, forge ahead to a moderately prosperous society”, the university carries out two strands of events through the whole year. The first is to collect and record the life stories of its alumni who, in different walks of lives, have contributed greatly to the development of the country, for example, Lin Zhiyuan, the engineer responsible for the national flag hoisting equipment used during the founding ceremony of New China; Yu Yuanjun, who devoted his whole life to the Dongting Lake treatment and preservation; and Yuan Guolin, one of the founders of the Three Gorges Project in China. The second strand comprises efforts to help eradicate poverty through education. In recent years, the university has partnered up with Tanchang County in Gansu Province and Fujia village in Tianjin to fight against poverty. It also offers a helping hand to boost the development of Lanzhou Jiaotong University and Qinghai Nationalities University.

A number of smaller-scale activities will unveil around the celebration day. There will be an exhibition reflecting the many achievements and world-changing ideas born within its walls and based on the country’s and people’s needs, two high-end forums on university culture and discipline construction respectively, and the final of an alumni-led innovation and entrepreneurship competition.

A bespoke architecture lightshow and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) show are also to be expected to highlight the day’s events.

According to the spokesman, Tianjin University will present a 12.5 hour live video streaming about its campus and all the activities.
