China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Innovation Online Courses Opened

On August 30, China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Center (CASOC) opened two online courses.These courses focused on the prevention of ocean-related disasters and the video production, taught respectively by Mr. Tan Jun, the Director of National Marine Hazard Mitigation Service of Ministry of National Resources and Ms. Xera Liu, the journalist and director of Tianjin Television Network (TJTV). Mr. Su Rongxin, Deputy Dean of Tianjin University’s School of Marine Science and Technology delivered a welcome speech.

Mr. Su Rongxin welcomed the participators and gave a detailed introduction of this program. “The Center has encouraged and supported many students from China and ASEAN universities to join different programs. In the past two years, we have hosted a series of China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Innovation Course Programs successfully, and the students actually learned a lot from the courses”, he said, “I wish all of you will gain a lot from these extraordinary programs.”

The Director of National Marine Hazard Mitigation Service of Ministry of National Resources, Mr. Tan Jun, gave the participants a lecture of “Knowing and Prevention of Ocean-related Disasters”. As a specialist in the field of the Marine Hazard Mitigation, he has engaged in marine disaster prevention and mitigation work for a long time and participated in compiling the National Marine Disaster Prevention and Mitigation parts of the “12th Five-Year Plan” and “13th Five-Year Plan”. He shared many top-edged researches on ocean-related disasters, such as rip current, tsunami, oil pollution, disastrous wave, red tide or green tide, etc.

Ms. Xera Liu, TJTV journalist and director with 4-years’ professional experience, talked about how to make and edit videos. Students learned about special techniques in video pre-production, including composition, scene, shooting angle, lighting, and the techniques in post-production, such as editing, grouping, color mixing, and music. Knowledge in production process were also mentioned during the lecture.

These two Courses attracted more than 150 participators from China and ASEAN countries. The Program provided excellent opportunities for students to learn from experienced specialists in different fields.

It’s reported that Online Courses @CASOC is a part of China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Innovation Courses, which started from 2017. In terms of epidemic control and prevention, this year’s courses have to be taken online. Together with the on-going 2020 China-ASEAN “Learning about Ocean” Student Film Competition, different programs are set to enhance students’ awareness of the ocean, to strengthen the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN.
