TJU President Attends 2020 CIMAC Spring Board Meeting

The 2020 Spring Board Meeting of the International Council on Combustion Engines (CIMAC) was held online from 5-6 May. Jin Donghan, President of the Chinese Society of Internal Combustion Engines, Chairman of CIMAC, and President of Tianjin University attended the meeting with 14 members of the Board and staff members of the CIMAC Secretariat.

On May 5, Peter Müller Baum, CIMAC Secretary-General, reported the income and expenditures of the CIMAC in 2019, the auditing process in 2019, as well as CIMAC’s plan for dues adjustment. Both the report and the plan were reviewed at the meeting and were submitted to the Board for approval. On May 6, Paolo Tonon, Vice Chairman of CIMAC, made a detailed report on communication strategies and the membership value proposition of the CIMAC. The directors present aired their views and discussed relevant matters in-depth.

At the meeting, Jin Donghan commended the CIMAC Secretariat’s preparations for the meeting and delivered a speech on dues adjustment, communication strategies and other special work. He pointed out that the COVID-19 situation was still serious worldwide, so the adjustment of dues should be fully investigated and suggestions of all parties should be followed based on the principle of equal rights and obligations. It was necessary to consider ways of increasing income, elaborately design existing brand activities, and strive to tap into commercial value. It was also necessary to implement a globalization strategy, attract investment from different countries, and strengthen cooperation with governments and enterprises. The Chinese Society of Internal Combustion Engines will actively support CIMAC’s dues adjustment plan

He emphasized that with the rapid development of global technology and energy revolution, the global economy was faced with major changes driven by sustainable development and digitalization. The CIMAC continued to advance research on communication strategies, which was of vital importance to the future development of the CIMAC. He hoped the CIMAC would proactively follow the trend and apply various digital technologies, as well as develop in-depth cooperation with global partners through strengthening communication and collaboration, formulating the international standard, building data sharing platform and so forth, so as to expand the influence of the CIMAC and realize its vision. As a member of the CIMAC, the Chinese Society of Internal Combustion Engines would actively strengthen coordination and contact with the CIMAC and the international internal combustion engine industry, and propose more Chinese approaches.

As agreed during the meeting, the 2020 CIMAC Autumn Board Meeting and Council Meeting are scheduled to be held in Tianjin, China in November.
