Steamed meat buns, verdant “eight-treasure” spinach, fresh and tender celery…At the Meiyuan Canteen on Peiyangyuan Campus on April 10, the first life skills class of this semester started at Tianjin University!
More than ten students from various colleges and schools who stayed at the school gathered on the first floor of at the Meiyuan Canteen to learn how to make traditional meat buns and cold dishes. While gaining culinary skills, they also felt the joy of working with their hands.
The students watched teaching videos about making steamed buns and cold dishes, and then participated independently in preparing the dishes under the watchful eye of the canteen chef.
"I have only made dumplings at home before. It’s the first time for me to make buns. It is really good to have this opportunity to try it out. I want to do it for my parents when I get home!" said Zheng, who majors in software engineering in the College of Intelligence and Computing of Tianjin University.
The event was jointly organized by the Logistics Support Department, the Department of Student Affairs, and the Publicity Department of Tianjin University. During the event, a body temperature test was administered to the participants and they were required to wear masks throughout the event.
"We hope that through such activities, while teaching the students about food preparation skills, they will also allow the students to appreciate the hard work of the service staff and the parents who work at home.” Wang Mengbin, Deputy Director of the Logistics Support Department said in an interview.
In recent years, while providing high-quality services for teachers and students, the Logistics Support Department has cooperated with various colleges and schools to build an internship training base to provide a platform for labor practice training for the students of Tianjin University. Students can make full use of the knowledge they have gained and actively participate in many practical labor projects such as campus landscaping design, food safety supervision, agricultural residue technical testing, smoke exhaust purification equipment design, etc. While getting practice training on their own, they have further improved the level of refined and scientific management on campus.
