CoME Online Courses Launched

Some teachers said that it was a sudden teaching revolution for them to teach online. Most of them had been burnt out when they were exposed to online courses at the very beginning. But they finally got through the difficulties using various methods. Here are teachers and their online courses at the College of Management and Economics since March 6, 2020.

Integrated of Management  Teacher: Huo Baofeng, Hu Yefei

An elective course taught by Prof. Huo Baofeng and Prof. Hu Yefei has been very popular recently.

The courseattaches great importance to engaging all students, in addition to regular classroom lectures, it carefully designed movie viewing, case analysis, and situational play. The course develops students' ability of cooperation and competition through online grouping. Each group designs the start-up company and its products separately, describes its innovation points and target groups, etc. And the best solution will be selected by the class.

The course specifically combines the realistic background of COVID-19, organizes various groups to discuss the economic and social impact ofCOVID-19in multiple dimensions, and guides students to actively think about public issues using divergent thinking.

Project Cost Planning and Control  Teacher: Wang Xueqing and Meng Junna

For many students, Engineering Cost Planning and Control is a challenging course. The teaching team believes that the most important thing for online teaching is to set a strict assessment to ensure that students' learning effects are not compromised. This strictness is directly reflected in the requirements for the quality of homework because the quality of homework directly reflects the students' understanding, grasp and application of knowledge.

Data Structure  Teacher: Jia Ning

Jia Ning said that live video streaming can turn teaching disadvantages into advantages. Data Structure is a course that pays equal attention to theory and practice. Theoretical studies include algorithm analysis and mathematical derivation. Practical exercises require writing program code. And it is often necessary for teachers to open up the programming environment in class to demonstrate the code. In the past classroom teaching, students often reported problems, for example, the word is too small, the lighting is poor and it's hard to see in the back row. However, in online teaching, Prof. Jia found that these problems were well solved and he also used a more mature model to make full use of each advantage.

Information System Construction, Operation, and Maintenance  Teacher: Dou Runliang

Prof. Dou is used to using system engineering principles and methods to explain the problems in information system construction, operation and maintenance management. He is also willing to look at online courses with a system engineering method. The online teaching process is a complex system to be optimized, including teachers, students, hardware, and software. Each part implements its functions. After forming as a whole, it produces overall functions. This production of function is a kind of qualitative change because this function is not processed by all parts. Teachers must get lessons ready, students must be prepared, software and hardware must be used, and various parts must cooperatewith each other.

Prof. Dou said, “When we deal with problems, on the one hand, we give full play to the teacher's experience and knowledge advantages and give full consideration to the needs of students. On the other hand, we must follow the rules of science, use tools to strengthen communication, and randomly invite students to answer immediate questions or express their opinions, etc., to eliminate the unfamiliar feeling brought about by distance and form a classroom-like learning atmosphere. We should have innovation in teaching methods, teaching material and guide students to explore.”

Financial Institution and Financial Market  Teacher: Li Haitao

Prof. Li found that the conditions that were easy to achieve in ordinary teaching had become insurmountable obstacles or difficulties to overcome in the current situation. The protracted epidemic prevention and control brings many problems and challenges to education. However, Prof. Li still appeals to the students, hoping that everyone can truly express their demands and actively communicate with the teachers to clarify where the problem is, to solve practical problems and resolve contradictions. Online teaching is not easy, it requires teachers and students to work together actively.
