Tianjin University to Establish One of the First National Applied Mathematics Centers

On February 26, 2020, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China announced that The Tianjin Center for Applied Mathematics (TCAM), led by Tianjin University was to be established. TCAM became one of the 13 first national applied mathematics centers in the country.

In 2014 the Tianjin Municipal People's Government agreed to establish the Tianjin Center for Applied Mathematics, relying on the Center for Applied Mathematics of Tianjin University which was established in 2012. This is the third mathematics center named after a province, following Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research (BICM) and Shanghai Center for Mathematical Sciences (SCMS). The Tianjin Municipal People's Government provides the center with operational funding support, while Tianjin University provides the center with priority development policy support, staffing, hardware support as well as financial assistance.
