Tianjin University Delegation Attends General Assembly of the ACNET-EngTech

From December 11-12, 2019, Lei Ming, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University, led a delegation to Cambodia to participate in the 5th General Assembly of the ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchange among Engineering and Technology Universities (ACNET-EngTech) held at the Svay Rieng University.

During the event, Lei Ming had in-depth exchanges with relevant leaders of well-known ASEAN institutions of higher learning, such as Svay Rieng University in Cambodia and Mahidol University in Thailand, on the development of internationalization of higher education in China and ASEAN countries.

Tianjin University, on behalf of the permanent president member universities of China reported on the progress that ACNET-EngTech has made in 2019 in terms of student exchange projects, capacity-building, faculty exchange, cooperative research, ACNET-EngTech members’ communication as well as support from ASEAN countries.

Participating universities discussed the work plan of the network in 2020 including the student exchange projects, teacher exchange projects, information communication among the members, and many others. The assembly also announced that Vietnam's Hue University joined the network as an observer, and decided that Beijing Institute of Technology will be the rotating presidency of the network in 2020.

On September 2, 2014, the Excellence Alliance of Chinese Universities (E9) and eight ASEAN Universities signed the ASEAN-China Joint Declaration on Establishing a Network for Cooperation and Exchange among Universities that offer engineering and technology education with the initiative and joint support of the ASEAN-China Center (ACC) and the South East Asian Minister of Education’s Organization for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED).

This year General Assembly is organized by Svay Rieng University in collaboration with the 2 partners in Cambodia, Mean Chey University and Asia Institute of Cambodia, with support from the secretariat, Tianjin University and Mahidol University. Representatives of 13 member universities of the ACNET-EngTech, a total of 300 people participated in this event.
