Guangdong Province Delegation Visits Tianjin University

On December 10, 2019, Qin Weizhong, vice governor of Guangdong Province, led a delegation to visit Tianjin University, to discuss the cooperation between the university and the provincial government.

Heads of related departments of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government attended the conference.

Tianjin University President Jin Donghan mentioned that Tianjin University places great importance on the cooperation with Guangdong, and established the Georgia Tech Tianjin University Shenzhen Institute (GTSI) with the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Shenzhen Government, serving major national strategic needs. At first, GTSI took actions with respect to talent cultivation and university management, and provided technology and talent support for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). Guangdong Province has a great development foundation and huge development potential, hoping both sides could make full use of their advantages, explore a more comprehensive, in-depth, and effective cooperation pattern, and strive to achieve more substantial results.

Vice Governor Qin Weizhong indicated that this visit to Tianjin University had immersed him in the long history and great achievements of a century-old university. He hoped that Tianjin University could give full play to its own advantages, meet the needs of local industry development, construct GTSI, and actively cooperate on the Guangdong Project, cultivating first-class talents and producing first-class results. Guangdong Province will, as always, support the development of Tianjin University in Guangdong, explore the new form of cooperation between university and local government, and make contributions to national economic and social development with Tianjin University.

At the conference, Han Qinghua, Dean of the School of Architecture, updated the attendees on the construction of “Large Earthquake Engineering Simulation Research Facilities” Project.
