Department of Engineering Management Awarded “Outstanding Educational Contribution Award”

Sponsored by the China International Talent Exchange Foundation and co-sponsored by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the “20 Years’ Development of Project Management in China: Achievement Presentation and Summit Forum” was successfully held in the Beijing Friendship Hotel. Nearly 500 delegates from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and related government departments, enterprises, universities and media attended the conference.

Tianjin University’s Department of Engineering Management of was awarded the “Outstanding Educational Contribution Award for 20 Years’ Development of Project Management in China.”Jun-ying Liu, Dean of the Department of Engineering Management, accepted the honor as a representative.

The Department of Engineering Management has been forging ahead with innovation since its founding in 1981. It became one of the eight outstanding disciplines of TJU in 2003 and was selected as a National First-rank Characteristic Discipline by the Ministry of Education.In addition, the Department’s first-level discipline "Management Science and Engineering" was evaluated as a National "Double First-Class" Construction Discipline and rated A in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education in 2018.

The Department of Engineering Management has been cultivating compound, pioneering and innovative engineering management talents for the construction industry in China based on the major national development strategy and the needs of international development. It is committed to building a first-class and internationally renowned engineering management major. The department has achieved a stable and long-term development with the joint efforts of all faculty.

The department has established a number of research platforms, such as the Energy Engineering Management Center and the Global Engineering Management Interdisciplinary Research Platform. It has become an important communication platform and academic center in the field of engineering management. Moreover, the "Energy Engineering Management Research Center" has been established with China National Offshore Oil Corporation, and Xiao-jian Jin, former President and Chairman of Offshore Oil Engineering Co. LTD was invited as an adjunct professor to facilitate the integration of industry, university and enterprise.

Twenty-six projects of the Department of Engineering Management were approved by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including one Key Programand one Excellent Young Scholars Program. And it also won the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement, the First Prize for Science & Technology Developmentof the Ministry of Education, the Tianjin Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award.
