Chinese Language Practice Activity Held for International Students

On October 18, October 25, and November 1, 2019, Tianjin University’s School of International Education organized international students into three batches to go to the Summer Palace in Beijing and Panshan in Tianjin to practice their Chinese language skills.

At the Summer Palace, students appreciated the beauty of the royal garden and learned about Chinese history and culture. Led by teachers, students visited the Seventeen Hole Bridge, Wen Chang Pavilion, Leshoutang (the Hall of Happiness and Longevity), the Gallery, and the Marble Boat, among others. With the teachers' explanations about the legend of the Summer Palace, students enhanced their understanding of ancient Beijing. This tour enabled international students to experience the spectacular and magnificent royal garden and get to know the masterful skill of the ancient architects and the wisdom of the working people.

Panshan, located in the Jizhou District of Tianjin, is a famous scenic spot in Tianjin. In the late autumn, students climbed Panshan with high spirts and fully enjoyed the beauty of the season. They appreciated famous poetry and calligraphy by Chinese ancients.

Through these practice activities, international students experienced the Chinese culture in different settings, improved the ability to listen and speak Chinese, and learned the development of Chinese social economics. Students indicated that through the activities, they had learned what they couldn’t get in the classroom, “We have visited a lot, experienced a lot, and gained a lot. The activities benefit us a lot and give us an in-depth understanding of Chinese culture.”
