Since 2016, Tianjin University’s School of Architecture has held an annual Participatory Design Concept and Practice Working Camp. The working camp encourages teachers and students to do field work in communities, parks and rural villages in Tianjin.
In October, the 2019 annual work camp was launched in Fujia Villiage. More than 30 teachers and students from the Department of Landscape Architecture participated in this camp. They visited Fujia village and after some in-depth discussion and interaction with villagers about rural planning and landscape design, the participants presented an overall landscape plan, an industrial program plan and comprehensive environmental improvement plan for the village. They also promised to finish the design and construction of the village’s center square before June, 2020.
During the work camp, the project team also conductedin-depth research among the villagers by way of interviews and on-site observation. They not only got first-hand material for an oral history, but also got to know special folk customs, Chinese farming culture and daily rural life.
The project team and villagers discuss about the overall layout plan for the village.
The project team asks for the villagers’ opinion on the center square design.
