Tianjin University’s English Writing and Reading Contests for 2019, also known as the Qualification Trials for the 2019 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” English Writing and Reading Contests (Tianjin Division)were successfully held recently at Tianjin University.Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs of Tianjin University and the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, more than 800 students from different colleges participated in the events, about 600 students in the Reading Contests and 200 in the Writing Contests.
The Reading Contest was held on both the old and new campuses On Oct. 9.The reading contest was comprised of several sections, including “To read for examining myself, for observing the world, for opening minds and for pursuing dreams”, and aimed to examine students’ skill in reading comprehension and independent thinking.
During the Writing Contest held on October 10,participantswererequired to write a 500-word-long argumentative essay and an expository of essay of 300 to 500 words. It was designed to test students’ abilities of analyzing topics and compiling well-structured essays in a limited time..
Twostudents won the grand prize, four won the first prize, six the second prize, and eight the third prize for each contest. The Awards Ceremony was held on Oct.19 on thePeiyangyuan Campus.
The winners of the grand prizes and first prizes will compete in the 2019 “FLTRP · ETIC Cup” English Writing and Reading Contests (Tianjin Division) on behalf of Tianjin University.
