TJU Earns Second Prize in 10th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament

Recently, the 10thChina Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) was held at Qingdao University. Sixty-five teams from 64 colleges took part in this contest. These teams were selected after a regional contest involving over 160 universities. The Tianjin University team won a second prize and qualified for the 2020 national contest.

Under the guidance of TJU teachers Pang Hai, Qin Zhu, Yang Yang, Liang Mailin and Dai Haitao, five students--Wang Sheng, Wu Yu and Xia Yan from the School of Science, Ding Ruiqi from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Qiu Hongyun, from the School of Mechanical Engineering cooperated and finished various contest tests in theoretical analysis, experimental verification and writing a report summary.

CUPT is a national contest reportedly based on the International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT). As an activity for motivating creativity, this contest is supported by the national Education Department. Based on the concept of collaborative innovation, it is aimed at encouraging students to apply knowledge to practice, and urging students to think out of the box. The context topics are special, most of which are from top academic publications such asScience, Nature, Physics Review Express and Modern Physics Review.
