APSEC Wins APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards

On July 5, the results of the 4th APEC Energy Smart Communities Initiative (ESCI) Best Practices Awards were officially announced on the APEC ESCI official website. Three Chinese submissions recommended by the APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC) stood out from the competition among 63 submissions from 17 APEC economies, winning one Gold and two Silver Awards.

The Chinese submissions won all the awards in the “Smart Buildings” category, a Gold and a Silver. The “Smart Integrated Energy Microgrid in the Customer Service Center of the State Grid Corporation of China”, jointly applied by Tianjin University and the State Grid Customer Service Center, won a Silver Award in the “Smart Grids” category.

The APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards, the only Project Prize in APEC, rewards the excellent submissions within the APEC region in five categories which include Smart Transport, Smart Buildings, Smart Grids, Smart Jobs and Consumers and Low Carbon Model Towns. Since 2013, submissions have been collected, reviewed and given the award every two years. A Gold and a Silver Award were established respectively for each of the five categories.

In 2017, the Three-Year Action Plan for the APEC Sustainable Energy Center incorporated the goal of “establishing domestic procedures centering on application for APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards and promoting the spread of great Chinese achievements”. From 2018 to 2019, APSEC organized and implemented the applications for APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards under the guidance and support of the National Energy Administration. Having undergone nearly a year of collection, application and training and expert review, three submissions were finally selected to the APEC stage and participated in the 2019 4th APEC ESCI Best Practices Awards Program.
