Cleaner Coal Technology and Clean Energy Policy Training Program Held

From May 6 to 10, 2019, a training program onCleaner Coal Technology and Clean Energy Policywas organized over 6-10 May 2019 in Ningbo, China by Clean Coal Technology Transfer Program Joint Operation Center (CCT Center), supported by China Energy Investment Corporation.

The APEC Sustainable Energy Center (APSEC) was established at the 11th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM) in 2014. It is attached to National Energy Administration and Tianjin University is responsible for its daily operation management. Since its establishment, it was written into “the 22nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Declaration—Beijing Agenda”.The CCT Transfer Program Joint Operations Center was jointly set up in September 2018 by the APEC Sustainable Energy Center and the China Energy Investment Corporation and operated by the China Energy Technology and Economics Research Institute.

Zhu Li, a professor from the School of Architecture, Tianjin University and Director of ARSEC, as well as other representatives from the National Energy Administration and China Energy Investment Corporation attended and addressed the meeting. More than 60 delegates from 10 APEC members including Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Malaysia; the Philippines; Russia; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; Vietnam and China participated in the event.

Dr Jyuung-Shiauu Chern, Chair of APEC’s Energy Working Group (EWG), praised the workshop as one of the most comprehensive and successful exchange of clean energy technologies organized by the EWG in the past decade. The workshop was publicized and reported on the official APEC website and China Global Television Network (CGTN) made a special report on this event.

Andrew Minchener OBE, Director of the IEA Clean Coal Center and Liu Wenge, Vice President of the China Coal Information Institute were invited to the workshop as well as well-known experts from other research institutions, universities and enterprises from home and abroad. Through various activities such as lectures, seminars and on-site visits, the experts from each APEC economy systematically shared their theories, policies, technical routes and relevant cases for developing clean coal technology and jointly explored the possible technical approaches to realize low-carbon utilization of high energy carbon.

During the workshop, the representatives visited the Ninghai Power Plant and Zhoushan Power Plant which have both reached industry-leading levels in terms of clean coal power generation technology indicators. Delegates from APEC economies spoke highly of the organization and the effectiveness of training, appreciated China’s achievements in clean power generation technology, and praised the positive significance of the event in promoting technological development in the Asia-Pacific region.
