Tianjin University (TJU) was recently approved by the Ministry of Education as one of the fourteen pilot universities for the comprehensive reform of national doctoral education.
The selection of the fourteen pilot universities was determined through a series of procedures from higher education institutions’ voluntary applications, reports and defense, to a panel of experts who thoroughly reviewed their qualifications.
China’s reform of doctoral education is an important step to improve the quality of doctoral students, to deepen the national educational reform and to realize China’ innovation-driven development. In the following four years, these pilot universities will strive to break institutional hurdles hindering doctoral education and to build a model platform for the cultivation of top-notch innovative personnel. It’s expected that new mechanisms and institutions to promote doctoral education will be established by 2020. Effective policies and helpful experience will be provided to other institutions of higher education to push forward their doctoral student training.
