On January 12, 2019, a breakthrough by a Tianjin University synthetic biology team in the field of artificial chromosome construction technology was selected as one of the China’s Top Ten Advances in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in 2018.
The "Top Ten Advances in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" covered important international frontier research fields such as artificial chromosome construction technology, immunocytotherapy, molecular diagnosis and stem cell clinical research. The results are finally determined and made public through the process of recommendation and declaration, project preliminary examinations, public evaluation, academician correspondence examinations and expert final examinations.
In May 2018, a synthetic biology team from Tianjin University developed a series of scientific achievements, such as the precise control of genome rearrangement technology, which opened a new research field of genome rearrangement in synthetic biology. In September, the research team made an in-depth study of genome rearrangement and the design of the synthetic ring chromosome V rearrangement, which provided a new research idea and model for exploring the structural variation and function of ring chromosomes. Relevant achievements were published in the international academic journal Nature Communications.
