The President of the University of Bristol Visits Tianjin University Shenzhen Institute

On March 23, Professor Evelyn Welch, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol, led a delegation on a visit to Tianjin University Shenzhen Institute. Professor Ming Dong, Vice President of Tianjin University, met with the delegation. The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including transnational educational cooperation, student exchange, and interdisciplinary integration. Relevant heads from the Office of International Cooperation and Shenzhen Institute attended the meeting.

Professor Ming Dong extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the University of Bristol. He noted that the University of Bristol is a world-renowned, high-level research-intensive university that shares much common ground with Tianjin University in terms of educational philosophy and disciplinary structure. He expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to promote in-depth collaboration across various disciplinary fields, explore new models for high-level transnational educational cooperation, and jointly cultivate innovative talents with a global perspective.

Professor Evelyn Welch expressed her gratitude for the warm reception from Tianjin University. She stated that the University of Bristol highly values its partnership with Tianjin University, and the purpose of this visit is to further finalize the details of cooperation through face-to-face communication. She hoped that taking cooperation in Shenzhen as a new starting point, both universities would achieve substantive progress in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, joint course development, and talent cultivation, thereby elevating the partnership to a new level.

During the visit, the two sides reached a mutual understanding on deepening educational exchanges and cooperation, and established a number of consensuses on specific topics such as the design of transnational education programs and interdisciplinary integration.

Founded in 1876, the University of Bristol is a member of the Russell Group and the Red Brick universities. It ranks 51st globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings and enjoys an outstanding reputation in fields such as Engineering, Medicine, and Social Sciences.
