Top Prize Awarded at Challenge Cup

A student team from Tianjin University’s School of Materials Science and Engineering claimed the top prize at the 19th “Challenge Cup” National University Student Science and Technology Competition in the New Materials category, one of China’s most influential platforms for undergraduate innovation.

The award-winning team, comprised by Wang Yifan, Zhou Yuqi, Cai Lipeng, and Miao Haodong, secured the championship under the supervision of Professors Liang Yanqin and Li Chaoyang.

The final round of the competition took place in Longyan, Fujian Province, from October 10 to 12. Designed to address pressing technological challenges and encourage solution-oriented research, the competition adopted a structured process that included problem identification, proposal submission, expert review, and on-site presentations and defenses. The 2025 edition marked the largest scale in the event’s history, drawing strong participation from universities nationwide and generating keen competition.

Final results were determined through a comprehensive evaluation process overseen by national notaries. A total of 8 championship awards were presented, alongside 14 special prizes, 19 first prizes, 21 second prizes, 31 third prizes, and 5 merit awards.

The achievement highlights the School of Materials Science and Engineering’s continued emphasis on integrating research-led learning with innovation practice. By providing students with rigorous academic training and access to high-level research and competition platforms, the school aims to cultivate talent capable of translating scientific knowledge into real-world solutions. Moving forward, it will further strengthen educational innovation, expand collaboration with industry and research partners, and support the development of students equipped to address complex engineering challenges in a global context.
