Tianjin University hosted the opening and award ceremony of the 17th Peiyang Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition at Peiyangyuan Campus. The exhibition showed several finest works from competition and celebrated the artistic talents of students, alumni, and faculty.

The event was co-organized by the Zhengdong Library in partnership with the Office of Alumni Association and Foundation, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, and the Xinzhu Calligraphy and Painting Club. A diverse audience of university leaders, faculty members, alumni, and student representatives gathered to witness the formal opening of the exhibition and to honor outstanding contributors to the competition.
Among the distinguished guests was Yang Huan, a member of the Tianjin University Party Committee and head of the Publicity Department, who delivered opening remarks. Yang noted that calligraphy and painting are traditional art forms and vital expressions of personal cultivation and cultural continuity. He encouraged broader participation in campus art initiatives to enrich university life.
Following Yang’s address, Zhang Chaoying, Party Secretary of the Library, extended sincere congratulations to the exhibition participants. Zhang highlighted the depth of China’s artistic traditions and the unique value that calligraphy and painting brought to modern education and personal development. He underscored the library’s commitment to fostering a space where aesthetic appreciation and cultural literacy can flourish on campus.
Pan Feng, Director of Office of Alumni Association and Foundation, shared his personal reflections on the long history of the Xinzhu Calligraphy and Painting Club. As a senior member, Pan praised the enduring spirit of collaboration and creativity that has sustained the group for more than three decades. He hoped that more students and alumni would engage with calligraphy and painting and that the club would continue to inspire artistic exploration.
In addition, Li Jing, Deputy Party Secretary of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, spoke about the significance of the exhibition taking place during Tianjin University’s 130th anniversary year and on the centennial of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The opening ceremony concluded with guests touring the exhibition and participating in guided commentaries on selected artworks led by Professor Sun Lie, Director of the Wang Xuezhong Art Institute. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with works that ranged from expressive calligraphy to evocative ink and brush compositions, each reflecting a unique connection between tradition and innovation.
The 17th Peiyang Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition will remain open through January 31, 2026, inviting students, faculty, and the broader community to experience this celebration of artistic heritage and creative dialogue.
