On December 18, 2025, a delegation visited Tianjin University, the visit focused on frontier technological development, transformation of scientific achievements, and the research and development of scientific equipment, with tours to key laboratories on campus. Zhu Jianbing, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science and Technology of the General Administration of Customs, and Wang Libing, Deputy Commissioner of Tianjin Customs led the delegation. TJU Vice President Ming Dong led the reception, and both sides held in-depth discussions on enhancing collaborative innovation.

Vice President Ming Dong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the long-standing support from customs authorities in science, technology, and tax exemption for imported educational and research equipment. He emphasized that as a national “Double First-Class” university committed to serving the country through education, TJU consistently upholds the guiding principles of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and advances its interdisciplinary development strategy. The year of 2025 marks TJU’s 130th anniversary, and the university is further inspired to cultivate self-reliant talent and advance technological innovation.

The delegation visited several key research facilities, including the Haihe Laboratory of Brain-Computer Interaction and Human-Machine Integration, the State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, and Tianjin International Center for Nanoparticles and Nanosystems. During the tour, Vice President Ming Dong, Academician Yuan Yingjin, and the head of TICNN respectively presented detailed reports on the laboratories’ research directions, core technologies, and progress in translating outcomes into applications. The visiting officials spoke highly of the groundbreaking innovations and their potential for real-world impact, and exchange views on further promoting technological development and future applications.

Following the lab visits, both sides held a discussion at TJU’s Weijin Road Campus. Zhu Jianbing noted that the visit highlighted TJU’s solid foundation and innovative vitality in frontier technologies, underscoring the key role of universities as major drivers of sci-tech innovation. He emphasized the strong existing cooperation between the customs system and universities, adding that supporting academic research is an important part of implementing the national innovation-driven development strategy. He expressed hope that this visit would establish a regular communication and collaboration mechanism, deepen cooperation in key technological challenges in research equipment development and commercialization, and jointly address bottlenecks in equipment R&D. Wang Libing stated that the reply from General Secretary Xi Jinping to Tianjin University has also inspired the broader community in Tianjin. Tianjin Customs will continue to fully support the development of the university, expand areas of cooperation, enhance its core competitiveness in technological innovation, and contribute robust support to China’s high-quality development strategy.

The visit was also attended by relevant officials and technical staff from the Tariff Department of Tianjin Customs, the Hexi Customs District Office of Tianjin Customs, and the Industrial Products Safety Technology Center of Tianjin Customs, as well as representatives from Tianjin University.
