Gold Award Secured at National Foreign Language Contest

On December 8th, the National Finals of the 2025 "FLTRP · Guocai Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" National College Students Foreign Language Proficiency Competition came to a successful conclusion. Zhang Yuxiang, an undergraduate student of Grade 2023 majoring in Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems from Tianjin University, stood out in the Translation Contest and won the national gold award.

Recognized by the Ministry of Education as a major national foreign language competition, the event drew nearly one million students from more than 1,300 universities nationwide. Following multiple rounds of rigorous selection at the university and municipal levels, over 4,000 contestants advanced to the national finals. Standing out among a highly competitive field, Zhang Yuxiang ultimately secured the gold award, distinguished by his strong linguistic competence, precise bilingual interpretation skills, and insightful engagement with the theme “Understanding Contemporary China.”

"Being able to stand on the national competition stage and win the gold award is inseparable from the support of the university and the school," Zhang Yuxiang shared. During the preparation period, relying on Tianjin University's training system of "promoting learning and practice through competitions" and the competition guidance, curriculum resources and other platforms built by the School of Foreign Languages, he has continuously improved himself in terms of translation skills and cultural cognition. Zhang Yuxiang also integrated the professional perspective of the School of Microelectronics into his translation practice. He said, "When translating content related to science, technology and industry, my professional knowledge reserve enables me to better grasp the accuracy of the text. This also made me realize the value of 'comprehensive foreign language proficiency' — it allows us to not only tell Chinese stories well through language, but also serve as a bridge for cross-cultural communication in professional fields."

The School of Microelectronics has always taken "the all-round development of students" as the core of its talent cultivation. On one hand, it focuses on in-depth professional training in the field of chips, and consolidates students' professional foundation through scientific research projects and academic competitions. On the other hand, it builds platforms covering foreign language proficiency improvement, cross-cultural communication, innovation and entrepreneurship practices, etc., to simultaneously expand students' language expression, comprehensive practical ability and international vision. It helps students grow into interdisciplinary talents with "solid professional skills, all-round capabilities and broad vision", contributing their youth and strength to the development of the integrated circuit industry.
