Beijing, Dec. 8, the 2025 “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National College Foreign Language Contest, themed “Understanding Contemporary China,” concluded its national finals. Students from Tianjin University (TJU) competing on the same stage with outstanding students from various universities across the country, excelled in four English categories—comprehensive international communication, translation, interpretation, and short video. They secured a total of 15 national awards: 2 golds, 4 silvers, and 9 bronzes, which marks a breakthrough in gold medal achievements for the university.




TJU has consistently upheld the educational philosophy of “promoting learning, practice, teaching, and talent development through competitions.” The School of Foreign Languages actively organizes and holds several high-level foreign language events in Tianjin. After multiple rounds of rigorous competition at university and municipal levels, TJU students demonstrated exceptional skills by showcasing China’s development and multicultural charm in English. It fully demonstrates their youthful responsibility of understanding China and communicating with the world, and builds a bridge of friendship for exchanges, cooperation, mutual learning. For its outstanding organizational contributions, TJU received the contest’s Outstanding Organization Award.


To fully enhance students’ foreign language proficiency, the School of Foreign Languages has implemented multifaceted initiatives. For example, they develop first-class undergraduate programs, cultivate top-tier graduate talent, reform English teaching curricula, and advance the “Understanding Contemporary China” course system. What’s more, they also engage students in translating academic works and supporting international conference services, strengthen faculty guidance for competitions and promote English club activities. All of these vividly prove that the school’s educational philosophy of cultivating comprehensive foreign language talents with “global language proficiency, cultural integration, and TJU characteristics.”
The contest with a wide influence, recognized by Ministry of Education of the PRC, attracted nearly 1 million students from more than 1,300 universities nationwide, with over 4,000 students advancing to the finals.
