The Second Sino-French Education Development Forum, co-organized by the Ministry of Education of China and theMinistry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of France and hosted by Sichuan University, was held in Chengdu on December 5. President Chai Liyuan of Tianjin University (TJU) attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech during the session titled “Building a Future-Oriented Talent Cultivation System to Promote Sustainable Development.”

President Chai addressed the forum with a focus on the practice of Sino-French cooperation in engineering education, challenges to the sustainable development of global engineering education, and the advancement of the “Emerging Engineering Education (3E) 3.0” initiative. He presented TJU’s achievements in Sino-French joint talent cultivation, scientific research exchange, and the establishment of international engineering institutes. Highlighting TJU’s role as the lead organization of the Ministry of Education’s Emerging Engineering Education Construction Working Group, President Chai elaborated on the comprehensive implementation of the “TJU Plan 3.0.” This plan aims to explore new mechanisms for integrated and interdisciplinary cultivation, build intelligent teaching and practice platforms, establish new paradigms for standardized education, and pioneer new models for international cooperation in engineering education, all dedicated to cultivating future-leading engineering and technological talents. He called for enhanced collaboration between Chinese and French universities to jointly strategize for the new chapter in educational development, contributing the strength and wisdom of higher education to building a future-oriented talent cultivation system and promoting global sustainable development.
The forum brought together representatives from over a hundred universities and institutions across China and France. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including innovation in engineering education, integration of industry and education, sustainable development, and youth communication. The event served as a platform to showcase the collaborative achievements between Chinese and French universities and to explore pathways and directions for deepening Sino-French educational cooperation in the new era.
