A delegation from Cardiff University led by Vice-Chancellor Gavin Shaddick visited Tianjin University from 2 to 3 December, where they met with Vice President Ming Dong, Chief Accountant Zhang Peng and representatives from various departments.



Ming Dong welcomed the delegation and noted that Cardiff University has become one of Tianjin University’s closest strategic partners, with recent years marked by increasingly substantive academic exchanges and collaborative initiatives. He expressed the university’s commitment to advancing joint talent development and research cooperation as both institutions pursue world-class standards. Gavin Shaddick conveyed appreciation for the warm reception, congratulated Tianjin University on its 130th anniversary and affirmed Cardiff’s strong interest in accelerating cooperative programs. During the visit, the delegation toured the national large-scale earthquake engineering simulation facility, gaining insight into Tianjin University’s advanced research platforms and the potential for wider interdisciplinary collaboration. Cardiff University, a member of the Russell Group, has maintained active engagement with Tianjin University, including leadership visits earlier this year.
