On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) announced its 2025 cohort of newly elected academicians, naming Hu Wenping, Executive Vice President of Tianjin University, member of the CPC Tianjin University Committee, and Professor in the School of Science, as a new CAS academician.

Born in May 1970, Hu has built a distinguished career in the physical chemistry of organic semiconductors and is widely regarded as a leading scholar in China in organic semiconductor crystal engineering and field-effect transistor device physics. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Institute of Metal Research and the Institute of Chemistry of CAS, and later carried out collaborative research at Osaka University and the University of Stuttgart. He returned to China in 2003 to further his scientific work and has remained dedicated to advancing research ever since.
Hu joined Tianjin University in 2013 and has served as Assistant to the President, Dean of the School of Science, and Vice President before assuming the position of Executive Vice President in 2021. Throughout his career, he has continued to work actively on the frontlines of teaching and research. His work focuses on the frontier of organic integrated circuits, and he has developed a research framework that integrates high-mobility materials, organic semiconductor crystals, and high-performance device physics. As the lead contributor, he has twice received the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award and has also been honored with major distinctions including the Tianjin Natural Science Special Prize and First Prize.
In addition, six Tianjin University alumni, including Shu Gequn, Cao Hongbin, Li Hongxia, Xu Tongwen, Li Guoqiang and Zhang Pengju, were also elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
