UMPSA Delegation Visits Tianjin University

A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Yatimah Binti Alias, visited Tianjin University on November 13. TJU Party Secretary Yang Xianjin and Vice President Ming Dong met with the delegation on our campuses and held in-depth discussions on strengthening institutional cooperation.

Yang Xianjin extended a warm welcome to Professor Yatimah and her team, outlining the university’s recent progress and ongoing initiatives. He noted that Tianjin University is marking its 130th anniversary this year, a milestone highlighted by a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping expressing expectations for the university’s future development. He also recalled the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in September, during which the Prime Minister delivered a keynote speech and inscribed a commemorative message for the anniversary, underscoring the significance both countries attach to higher-education cooperation.

Yang emphasized that Tianjin University looks forward to deepening cooperation with UMPSA in joint talent development, scientific research, and innovation practice, contributing to a closer China-Malaysia community with a shared future.

Professor Yatimah expressed her sincere appreciation for TJU’s warm reception. She highlighted the fruitful achievements generated through the partnership in recent years. Since 2021, the two universities have signed agreements on student exchange and 2+2 joint undergraduate training programs. To date, six UMPSA students have completed exchange programs at Tianjin University, and the first cohort of eight students from the 2+2 program began their studies at TJU this year. She noted UMPSA’s interest in expanding the partnership to include master’s-level dual-degree programs and in advancing joint research, particularly in areas such as chemical engineering.

The delegation toured the School of Chemical Engineering, international student residences, and Juyuan Canteen, and engaged with students enrolled in the joint program. Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation, School of International Education, and the School of Chemical Engineering accompanied the meeting.

Located in Pahang, Malaysia, UMPSA is a public technical university founded in 2002 and is recognized as a leading institution within the Malaysian Technical University Network for its achievements in research and innovation.
