Tianjin University hosted an innovative “Majors into Community” themed exhibition on October 24, in the student’s residential zone aimed at the 2025 undergraduate cohort.

Faculties from the School of Marine Science and Technology, the School of Microelectronics, the School of Architecture, and the School of Life Sciences brought forward distinctive professional exhibits, ranging from unmanned aerial vehicles and underwater multi-modal sensing cameras to intricate dougong bracket models and marine biology specimens.

The exhibits were installed directly within dormitory-area communal spaces so that freshmen could gain an immersive, one-stop encounter with the university’s disciplinary strengths, without leaving their residence building.

Associate Professor Yuan Wensu from the School of Life Sciences, also a lecturer at the municipal biology education base, highlighted that specimens collected by students during undergraduate field internships were showcased, which drew strong interest from students outside the biology major.
The university’s Student Affairs Department emphasized that this approach is part of a broader strategy to embed education more deeply into living spaces and to transform student communities into holistic educational environments. Through the “exhibition + teaching” model and interactive sessions led by faculty, peer mentors and student ambassadors, the initiative not only broadens students’ academic horizons but also fosters cross-disciplinary exchange and a stronger sense of discipline identity.
