Hu Shixin, President of the University of California, Riverside and alumnus of Tianjin University, sent a video message to extend congratulations on the university's 130th anniversary. In his remarks, he expressed deep gratitude to his alma mater and reflected on how his education at Tianjin University shaped his lifelong commitment to scholarship and leadership.
Hu introduced UC Riverside as one of the fastest-growing public research universities in the United States, widely recognized for its achievements in diversity and social mobility. He noted that these values resonate with the inclusive and pioneering spirit of Tianjin University.
Recalling his study years from 1979 to 1983, Hu said the rigorous training and dedicated mentorship he received laid the foundation for his academic career. He highlighted the friendships and intellectual inspiration he gained during that period, which continue to influence his work today.
He underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between Tianjin University and UC Riverside in addressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, and public health. “May Tianjin University continue to nurture talent and pursue excellence,” he said. “Its 130th anniversary marks the beginning of a new journey toward greater achievements.”
